You're not alone.

Three stories from people living with gout.

Suddenly I had this incredible pain in my big toe. At first I thought it was from playing football. Weeks later it was clear: a gout attack, triggered by a beef broth from the day before.

My ankle had swollen up overnight. A friend pointed out my elevated uric acid. Since then I've eaten more deliberately low-purine and I've been pain-free.

At first I thought I had sprained my foot. It took a while to understand what was really going on. Today I know how to handle it day to day.

Gout rarely comes alone.

A gout attack is rarely a single event. It's part of a cycle, one that turns on its own until you actively stop it.

The downward spiral
  • Pain & the diagnosis shock
  • Less movement, weight goes up
  • Higher uric acid & more medication
  • Liver and kidneys carry the load
  • … and then it starts over.
The way up

But here's the thing: that exact same cycle also turns the other way. Every step that pulls it down can just as easily lift it up.

  • Measure & understand
  • Targeted nutrition without sacrifice
  • More movement & muscle
  • Better numbers, more energy

“Gout is a relatively low-threshold entry into a better life. Mostly before too much is broken.”

The good news

"For those affected, gout feels like a punishment. However, it can be a chance. "

Gout touches almost every part of your life: food, weight, exercise, sleep, stress, alcohol. At first that sounds like a lot. But it also means: everything you do against gout pays off for your quality of life.

Diagram · How it starts

How does a gout attack happen?

Modern research describes gout as the interplay of uric acid, crystal formation and inflammation.

Step 1

Uric acid rises

The body breaks down purines from food and natural processes, producing uric acid.

Step 2

Crystals can form

When uric acid stays elevated for too long, tiny crystals can build up.

Step 3

The immune system reacts

Your body recognizes the crystals as a trigger and starts an inflammatory response.

Step 4

Pain & swelling

This can cause sudden, intense joint pain, redness and swelling.

Diagram · The cycle

How a gout flare often unfolds

Many people experience gout in recurring phases.

01

Possible triggers

Alcohol, dehydration, stress, swings in uric acid, certain foods, medications.

02

Acute gout attack

The joint can suddenly become very painful, swollen and tender.

03

Symptoms subside

Between attacks many people feel noticeably better again.

04

Uric acid stays high

Without long-term care, crystals can keep forming.

05

New flare possible

Which can lead to further gout attacks.

Modern guidelines therefore recommend: treat acute symptoms, and keep uric acid in check long-term.

We analyze current guidelines, statistics, studies and research on gout and translate them into plain, easy-to-understand language.

How an attack starts

How does a gout attack happen?

Current research describes gout as the interplay of elevated uric acid, crystal formation and a strong inflammatory response.

  1. 1

    Uric acid rises

above the saturation point in your blood

  2. 2

    Crystals form

mostly in joints and cooler tissue

  3. 3

    Inflammation kicks in

your immune system reacts to the crystals

  4. 4

Why at night?

Why gout often starts at night

  • Lower body temperature

    uric acid crystallizes more easily

  • Shifts in fluid balance

    joint concentration goes up

  • Quiet crystal formation

    over hours of sleep

  • Sudden wake-up

    many people know that moment

What today's care looks like

  1. Treat acute pain

    fast relief during an attack

  2. Lower uric acid long-term

    the real lever

  3. Understand your triggers

    spot your personal patterns

  4. Adjust everyday life

The founder
My story

Hi, my name is Andy. I'm a former Michelin-starred chef and a serial entrepreneur. Food is my life. Then one day, I woke up with excruciating pain in my foot.

What I learned fast: you can't rely on the healthcare system alone here. Not because doctors are bad, but because there's no time, because rheumatology is a complex field with lots of questions still open, and because several things are often happening at once. In my case, a connective tissue disorder was part of it too.

So I managed it the way I manage a company: measure, understand, adjust. The good news. It works. And it can be learned.

When a close friend developed the same symptoms, I shared everything I had learned and helped him navigate the journey with much more confidence than I had when I started. That experience made us realize that we need to make this available to more people.

That's why we created Gout Compass.

Michelin-starred chef & entrepreneur

In the middle of the night. Out of nowhere.

Suddenly that pain in your toe. Then the diagnosis: gout. And then? Five minutes with the doctor, a prescription, and a hundred open questions. Can I still have a glass of wine? Is my favorite food over now? Will this come back? You're not alone in this. And it's not your fault.

Why does the pain usually strike at night and so suddenly?

What Gout Compass is, and what it isn't.

It is

Orientation, knowledge and a clear plan. Built on lived experience and credible sources. Something that gives you courage.

It isn't

Not a substitute for medical care. No promises of a cure. Nothing we can't keep. Always discuss medical decisions with your doctor.

Common questions

Does this work for severe gout too?+

The course explains the different forms and what makes sense for each. It complements your medical care, it doesn't replace it.

Do I need a measuring device?+

Recommended, yes, the course shows you exactly which one and how to use it. You can also start without one.

Does this replace my doctor?+

No. Gout Compass gives you orientation and knowledge so you don't feel left alone on the medical side.

Is the course a subscription?+

No. The course is a one-time purchase. Only Weekly Inspo is optionally available as a subscription.

I love good food. Is that over now?+

Quite the opposite. A Michelin chef built this course. It's explicitly about enjoyment, not sacrifice.
